Marty McSorley began his NHL career with the Pittsburgh Penguins. Marty was born in 1963 in Hamilton, Ontario. He currently spends his offseasons in Cayuga, Ontario. His last amateur hockey club was the Belleville Bulls in the 1982-1983 hockey season. In 1985 Marty was traded from Pittsburgh to the Edmonton Oilers. Marty was one of the players traded to Los Angeles in the big Wayne Gretzky deal. Marty went back to Pittsburgh for a few months during the 94-95 season.

The Coyotes is part-owned by Wayne Gretzky; Coyotes' GM Michael G. Barnett was McSorley's agent. [16 June 2002]One of 10 children.The fourth most penalized player in NHL history (3,381 PIM).Won 2 Stanley Cups (1987, 1988) with the Edmonton Oilers.Assisted on Wayne Gretzky's record-breaking 802nd NHL career goal. [23 March 1994]Was caught with an illegal stick in the 1993 Stanley Cup Finals.In an incident that effectively ended his career, McSorley hit fellow enforcer Donald Brashear upside the head with his stick in the last moments of the Boston Bruins-Vancouver Canucks game. Brashear lost consciousness and suffered a Grade 3 concussion. He has since fully recovered and continues to play. McSorley was suspended for 1 year -- the longest suspension ever given to a player in NHL history. [21 February 2000]A Vancouver, B.C. jury found McSorley guilty of assault with a weapon on Donald Brashear, but wouldn't have any charges go on his record if he completed 18 months of probation. The trial was the first for an on-ice attack by an NHL player since 1988. [4 October 2000]His wife was a pro beach volleyball player.
